Acceleration programmes for our best performing staff

Acceleration programmes for our best performing staff

The Buckinghamshire & Milton Keynes Fire Authority (BMFKA) is committed to offering internal staff the first opportunity for development and progression.

We are in the process of looking into acceleration programmes for those members of staff who are demonstrating the potential to develop themselves further and at a pace that reflects both organisation and employee needs.

An example of this is the recent Group Commander development centre. Applications for this are being accepted from any competent Station Commander, including those Station Commanders who have been deemed competent for pay purposes however are in the process of completing their Institution of Firefighter Engineers (IFE) examinations.

As the IFE exams are only held biannually it was agreed to allow those competent in role but actively studying to apply for the development centre. This supports the plans for fast tracking by removing the barrier of having to complete the IFE examinations before being able to progress to the next role. The relevant examinations will still have to be completed, therefore not reducing the standard in technical knowledge required.
