A dementia-friendly community is one that continually works to improve social inclusion and quality of life for people with dementia and one that involves the whole community working together.
Over the coming months employees at Buckingham Fire Station are planning to talk to as many small businesses and shop owners in Buckingham as possible. Selected staff will be trained to become “dementia champions”. This will allow the champions to provide input to local businesses so that they can become dementia friends. We want to provide the local community with training either at Buckingham Fire Station or on their own premises. dementia Friends will be equipped to refer people with dementia to our home fire risk check initiative, allowing the Authority to target higher risk categories.
By making people aware of the difficulties that people with dementia have, we hope that Buckingham will become a dementia-friendly community.
