8 Support Staff , 17 On-Call Firefighters, 11 Flexible Firefighters and 22 Apprentice Firefighters


The ongoing objective for apprentices is to recruit and develop people into career pathways across the Service. We currently have the following apprentices in post –

We also have 22 apprentice firefighters who have completed the following training and are due to commence posts on Station from 24th October 2016.

Week 8-9 1st aid emergency services course/ consolidation training Haddenham Fire Station & Great Holm Fire Station


Week 7 concluded with all 22 apprentice firefighters graduating from the Fire Service College. The graduation was attended by family and friends, representatives of the Senior Management Team, People and Organisational Development, Service Delivery and Training School.

FF Anthoiny Lancaster very proudly received the Silver Axe award and commented on his training experience –

‘I have really enjoyed my whole experience at the Fire service College. The grounds and facilities are more realistic than I ever imagined, and all the instructing staff are very well informed. I will come out of the college with new friends, a new respect for the Fire Service and a close knit team’

To support the arrival of the apprentices, various staff have been trained or up-skilled to become asses­sors and internal verifiers. Further training and mop-up sessions have been scheduled for November 2016.


Following an internal application and selection process, a pilot project started In May 2016 to offer 11 individuals a Flexi-Firefighter contract. The aim was to produce a team fully equipped to respond to the existing and emerging needs of a modern fire and rescue service.

During this pilot, which starts on Tuesday 31 May 2016, the Authority invested in enhancing the skills of the group to ensure they were fully equipped to take on various operational roles.


All Support Staff vacancies

Recruitment activity has been high this year. We managed 30 support services staff recruitment campaigns. Activity included advertising, shortlisting applicants, and assistance with interviews.

In addition Human Resource supported testing for all on call recruitment activity which is ongoing throughout the year.
