Regular consultation with employees

Regular consultation with employees

The Authority believes in giving employees a voice in the business and recognises that effective consultation and information exchange are essential to fully engage employees in the business and its strategic objectives and to develop a commitment to change. To facilitate effective information and consultation, employees will be represented on various consultation groups such as the Joint Consultation Forum, bringing together management, employees and their representatives for consultative purposes. Forums will operate in a spirit of cooperation, openness and mutual trust at a single table and will be chaired by a representative of the Human Resource Department and/or a nominated Head of Service.

All managers are actively encouraged to consult with employees whenever a change is contemplated. Employees are afforded opportunities for communication, consultation and involvement by a range of established communication and consultation tools appropriate to the subject matter, both in person and indirectly.

The Milton Keynes Project- public consultation

BMKFA launched a public consultation on Monday 14 September 2015 into a proposal to merge Bletchley and Great Holm Fire Stations in Milton Keynes and create a blue-light hub station at West Ashland. The consultation document was published on Friday 11 September 2015 to enable staff and other interested parties to read all the background material before the consultation went live. This is a good example of how we are committed to effective communications with our communities.

The People Strategy and Employee Proposition

At the centre of these two projects is a very important concept –¬†employee involvement. The development of the Employee Proposition and People Strategy will be enhanced through effective involvement with all employees. This will develop a culture where opinions are heard and responses are made in a clear, effective and transparent manner. Significant investment will be made in seeking opinions and views on matters that concern individuals and groups, either through staff focus groups or internal consultation processes. Managers at all levels will also be encouraged to listen and feed back views to shape the future, with a commitment from managers to always feed back (up and down) to those who made suggestions.
